NEWS & UPDATES
NOVEMBER 2017 -- Construction has started on a small, structural facility at Red Rocks Amphitheatre called the Red Rocks Depot. Unfortunately for train enthusiasts, the Depot will not be a train stop but rather a much needed support facility for the operations at the venue. It will house the waste management operations where the separation of recyclables and compostables occurs to support the venue’s eco-friendly missions, as well as storage facilities and four unisex restrooms for park and amphitheatre visitors. It will be built into the hillside on the west side of the upper north parking lot minimizing its impact on the parking lot while being readily accessible to the staff and public.
Some of the architectural elements of the depot that will give it a unique aesthetic, while blending into the park and paying homage to the Amphitheatre include:
- Board form concrete exterior walls
- COR-TEN Weathering Steel accents
- Smooth sandstone blocks on the exterior of the restroom (a different take on the Lyons sandstone used in the amphitheatre)
- A green roof using native grasses and vegetation
Construction will be completed in time for the venue’s first shows in April 2018
No road detours, Visitor Center closure or major disruption to daily park or amphitheatre operations are expected during this period.
