Denver Arts & Venues and Denver Parks & Recreation announced plans for re-dedicating Red Rocks Amphitheatre on its 75th anniversary, and celebrating the National Historic Landmark achievement for the park and Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) camp on Wednesday, June 15.
The event starts at 3 p.m. with free CCC camp tours available to the public, and then moves to the historic amphitheater at 4 p.m. where backstage tours are available until 6 p.m. Following the tours, a National Historic Landmark achievement presentation, a re-dedication proclamation, live performances from the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and Hazel Miller, and a Native American blessing by Douglas GoodFeather will take place. Rounding out the evening’s events, Film on the Rocks is presenting Orson Welles’ “Citizen Kane” – also celebrating its 75th anniversary.
Patrons must purchase a Film on the Rocks ticket to enter the amphitheater at 4 p.m. Backstage tours are available to ticketholders only and will begin in front of the stage. Tickets start at $15, and are available at www.AXS.com or charge-by-phone at 800.929.7849.
Red Rocks Park and the CCC camp received National Historic Landmark status in 2015, and will receive the honorary award that is administered by the National Park Service on behalf of the Secretary of the Interior. The designation recognizes sites that possess exceptional value and quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States. Guest speakers for the presentation and re-dedication include Mayor Michael B. Hancock and intermountain regional director of the National Park Service, Sue Masica.
The City and County of Denver worked closely with the National Park Service to prepare the nomination for Red Rocks Park and the CCC camp. The CCC camp is located at 300 Union Avenue in Morrison.
