Like a lot of the most celebrated art in society, great music is created in an organic fashion, absent the agenda for fame or fortune. Such art is manifested out of passion and an internal drive to bring to life a vision, sound or shape. That is very much the case with how Rob Garza and Eric Hilton embarked on the musical odyssey that is Thievery Corporation.

20 short years ago, two aficionados of multi-cultural music bonded at the now iconic Washington DC nightclub The 18th Street Lounge after quickly acknowledging a shared appreciation for a wide diaspora of music and started recording their own brand of it accordingly. It was, if anything, organic like everything the recoding duo has produced over the course of their 7 album releases, multiple compilations, during the evolution of their now famous live show and the statements the two citizens of the earth make in their tastemaker style and political positions.  

There have been many milestones over these last two decades but at or near the top of the list has been the ability to play one of the world’s most truly unique and incredible venues, Colorado’s own Red Rocks Amphitheatre. “Red Rocks is the top of the artist and audience experience live music food chain in the USA.  I felt and continue to feel a great sense of pride in having been able to play there as many times as we have, each time with the experience getting better and better” says Rob Garza.  Eric Hilton adds, “There is something about the beautiful and dramatic setting combined with the energy level of the audience in Denver that sets the shows apart from others. It’s been an amazing opportunity, among many, in our career to play there each summer.”

In 2010 Thievery Corporation was invited to play along Sound Tribe Sector 9’s annual set of shows at Red Rocks also featuring Ghostland Observatory. The year after began a stretch of 5 headline shows at the fabled park where the band had the chance to invite such friends as Beats Antique, Toro y Moi, Tycho, Art Department, Mayer Hawthorne and more to play with them. As a result, Thievery Corporation enjoys a wide fan base across the Front Range of the Colorado Rockies and all over the state. Colorado is one of the band’s biggest markets and it certainly contains among its most ardent fans.  Thievery Corporation is proud to announce their 2016 Red Rocks date: Friday May 13, 2016.  This 20th anniversary show at Red Rocks will include songs from the bands 20 year catalogue, perhaps a few surprises and a very special guest artist that will be announced early 2016.
