The Colorado Symphony announces Yo-Yo Ma performing J.S. Bach’s unaccompanied cello suites at Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.
Yo-Yo Ma’s Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre debut is the first stop in a two-year journey that will bring Bach's complete solo cello suites to a limited number of locations on six continents.
It is a journey motivated not only by the music’s significance in his life — it is among the very first he ever played — but also by Bach’s ability to speak universally. Yo-Yo Ma believes that at a moment when our world is challenged by the pace of change and the strain it can create, audiences old and new will find shared meaning in this music. He has said that when “Bach’s music touches us, it reconnects us to our common humanity.”
Indeed, writing in the New Yorker in December, Alex Ross described Yo-Yo Ma’s performance of the suites at the Hollywood Bowl as "The loveliest experience of my listening year … it was as if music had stilled the world.”
The evening will showcase Yo-Yo Ma performing the solo cello suites while spotlighting Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre as a truly stellar, acoustically-sound, world renowned outdoor venue.
This performance will be his second in greater-Denver in less than a year following an unforgettable sold-out show with the Colorado Symphony at Boettcher Concert Hall on December 10.
Tickets will go on-sale to the public on Friday April 13 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets will be $175.00, 135.00, 79.50, 59.50 and 39.50 plus all applicable taxes and fees.
This event is ticketed exclusively by AXS.com.
Please note this performance is without members of orchestra and is a standalone showcase featuring Mr. Ma; presented by the Colorado Symphony Association.
